On December 31, 2008, The U.S. Consulate Johannesburg issued the following Warden Message:
"The Palestine Solidarity Committee
is scheduled to hold a lawful gathering in front of the U.S. Consulate
General building on Friday, January 2, 2009, from 1400 to 1700.
The purpose of the gathering is to protest against Israeli
military operations currently underway in
"Demonstrations and marches are not spectator events. If you come upon any demonstration while traveling, alter your route and avoid driving or walking near the demonstration. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are urged to avoid any areas where demonstrations and marches are planned and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any protest. American citizens may consult local media for updates on the demonstration."

"An organization called the Concerned
Congolese People will be demonstrating at the U.S. Consulate General
Johannesburg tomorrow, Friday, October 13, 2006, from approximately
11:30 to 14:00 hours. The demonstration is related to upcoming
elections in Congo. Event organizers are expecting approximately 100
people to take part in the demonstration.
"The U.S. Consulate General will
remain open for all Consular Services, however, we do recommend that you
exercise appropriate caution when visiting the office.
We wish to remind American Citizens
that although demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn
confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American Citizens
are therefore urged to avoid the areas of the demonstration and exercise
caution when in the vicinity of any demonstration.
